U21 HURLING SEMI FINAL

Our U/21 hurlers were unfortunate to come out second best to the Shelmaliers in the semi final on Sunday last. In a bitterly cold Monageer we went in at halftime one point up 1-4 to 6pts after playing against a gale and looked to be in contention in the second half. However, after a 10 minute purple patch at the beginning of the second period we only managed to put a single point on the board.

Our discipline or lack of it didn't help either with the Shelmaliers scoring 10 out of 11 points from frees – the final score 11pts to 1-6.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael Furlong, John Browne, Gareth Kavanagh, John Barron and Ronan Furlong for all the work they put into this most difficult grade. We played our first round against Ferns in July and our next game was on Sunday 23rd November – well done to the mentors and players for staying with it and giving a good account of themselves despite losing the game.

Echo Report:

Kelly powers Shels in second-half charge

by Noel Holohan

WITH COUNTY minor Joe Kelly in red-hot scoring form, Shelmaliers turned a one point interval deficit into a two point win over Rapparees, as they advanced to the final of the Captain Michael Baker county under-21 Premier hurling championship after a closely fought encounter at bitterly cold and windy Monageer on Sunday afternoon.

Considering the time of year, both the pitch and the standard of the game were pretty good, with Shelmaliers racing into an early three point lead, thanks to points from Joe Kelly (2) and Conor Byrne.

Ger Foley got the opening score for Rapparees side, with a point, and Tommy Foley closed the gap to the minimum with a similar strike.

Points from Joe Kelly and Conor Byrne, both from frees, extended the Shelmaliers’ lead. But once again Rapparees closed to within a point, as Tommy Foley and Fran O’Gorman were each on the mark with points. Joe Kelly grabbed the final point of the opening half.

However, the final score of the first period was a goal, when a free from Tommy Foley was eventually finished to the net by Fran O’Gorman, to turn the tables in favour of Rapparees at half time by 1-4 to 0-6.

On the resumption, Joe Cullen extended the lead for Rapparees with a point. But Shelmaliers began to up their work-rate, and their hard work earned two frees that Joe Kelly pointed to level matters, before the same player pointed from play to send the Shels back in front.

Another points from Kelly increased the gap further before Tommy Foley closed the margin when raising another white-flag for Rapparees.

Another point from Joe Kelly, his fifth of the secondhalf and his ninth in all, left Shelmaliers clinging onto a dangerous two point lead. But it was to be enough, as Rapparees were unable to find the net in their desperate attempts, with Oisin Carley going closest with a low drive in the dying seconds.

Shelmaliers Ciaran Walsh, Benny Barron, Conor Byrne (0-2), Andre O’Brien, Ciaran O’Shaughnessy, Clive Lawlor, Jason Murphy, Joe Kelly (0-9, 6 frees), Conor Walsh, Chris Wall, Jamie Horan, Brian Doyle, John Redmond, Tommy Barron, Willie O’Shaughnessy.

Rapparees David Doyle, Rory Newe, Kevin Courtney, Mark Redmond, Jason Kerr, Peter O’Sullivan, Daithi Mernagh, Ricky Fox, Tommy Foley (0-2), Ger Foley (0-1), Cathal Mernagh, Fran O’Gorman (1-1), Joe Cullen (0-1), John James Dunne, Aaron Ronan. Subs: Lee Murphy for Fran O’Gorman; Barry Nolan for John James Dunne; Oisin Carley for Cathal Mernagh.

Weekend of 18th/19th October

With our Junior and Senior hurlers both beaten yesterday by Crossabeg and Cloughbawn respectively it was down to our women to keep the flag flying and that they did beating Crossabeg/Ballymurn 3-8 to 3-6 giving our success starved supporters something to cheer about and something to look forward to as our ladies go forward to their first ever final on 1st November against St. Annes. A first for the ladies and a first for the club - to be in a final in Ladies football!

With 8 minutes to go and 7 points down it was uplifting to see that there is fight in the Starlights still as the girls stuck to the task, kept their heads and with guts and determination got the desired result. Some very fine performances but none better that the midfield pairing of Charlene Murphy and Nicola Davitt, classy striker and goal scorer Kim Walker, staunch defended Jane Mythen and the skillful Sarah Nolan. Well done and congratulations to Michael Nolan and his charges and all our best wishes for the final.

Weekend of 11th/12th October

Well its back to the proverbial drawing board at Bellefield as our Senior Footballers emulated our Senior Hurlers exiting from the Championship in a dismal performance against Gusserane in Wexford Park on Sunday. A beautiful bright clear day with not a breath of wind conditions were ideal and there could be no excuse for not playing good football and yet we didnt.

We seemed to have lost all the skill that was part of our pattern of play for the past number of years and we were totally off the pace of championship football. It is no longer good enough to turn up for football when we exit from the hurling - realise it or not Wexford football has improved over the past couple of years - something that seems not to have dawned on the Starlights until yesterday.

With our Junior Footballers not being able to field a team on Saturday and our Minor hurlers beaten on Sunday morning with only the bare 15 - I think its time we sat down and had a very close look at ourselves and our future prospects.

Weekend of 4th/5th October

In wet and miserable condition on Saturday evening last our Senior Hurlers managed to claw their way to the semi final stages of the B Championship beating Oylegate by the very narrowest of margins. Looking comfortable at half time we were leading1-10 to 4 points albeit it turning into a strong wind however after a barren 15 minutes of the second half Oylegate had notched up 1-6 to make it a drawn game and the game continued in that vein until the final whistle.

As had been communicated to Clubs extra time was to be played which I have to say is fine once it is safe to do so. I would have to make the comment that Referees should not be pressurised either by Clubs or County Management to play extra time unless they are sure that the 30 players on the field are not at any risk due to failing light. On Saturday evening last the lights in the stand came on for spectators and yet the players on the field were expected to hurl with darkness falling despite the fact that the Referee had said that he didnt think there would be sufficient light to finish extra time - now this is unacceptable.

Our priority always should be the safety of the 30 players on the field and we should not be willing to put them at risk simply because we as a county didnt play our championships when we should have.

In the end and in falling darkness Rapparees came out eventual winners with a goal from a free by Tomas Mahon in the closing minute leaving the final score 3-17 to 2-19.

WEEKEND OF 27/28 SEPTEMBER

Congratulations to our wonderful U/14 team who completed the double beating Naomh Eanna comprehensively on Sunday morning in Camolin. The scoreline of 7-11 to 2-4 is an indication of the talent and skill of these young clubmen. No disrespect to the Gorey side but we outclassed them in every area of the field and apart from the first few minutes of nerves we were never in any danger. This is a truly talented side and it is up to us to see that they remain at the top in the County.

Congratulations and well done to the men over them who left no stone unturned in their championship quest. A complete team performance with spectacular hurling from beginning to end - these are our Senior hopes for the future so we must continue to work and to nurture them. Scorers Kevin Foley 3-3 Seanie O`Gorman 2-2 Kevin Ryan 5 pts Neil McCrea and Liam Ryan 1 goal each and Dale Galway 1 pt.

Our Senior Footballers managed to stay in contention for the title beating Sarsfields 1-8 to 1-6 in a game that began with the Starlights coasting and in control of almost all positions - with a halftime score 1-6 to 2 pts - we looked the better side by far - however a serious of bad misses and wides in the opening stages of the second period allowed the opposition the opportunity to claw their way back into the encounter and at the final whistle we were lucky to have recored the victory and keep our Championship hopes alive.

The luck of the day didnt hold for our Junior B footballers who were beaten later on Sunday evening by Monageer. Our Minor hurlers were also beaten on Saturday morning in Bellefield by the Shelmaliers.

Senior Hurling

Sun Sept 14

Rapparees 1-8 Glynn Barntown 2-8

No joy on the hurling front this week with our Senior hurlers going down to Glynn/Barntown 1-8 to 2-8 and recording a second defeat in this years championship and our Junior hurlers only managing a draw against the Faythe Harriers which effectively ends their chance of glory.

In a wet and miserable New Ross our Senior hurlers gave a very poor account of themselves only managing to get two scores from play a goal from Tomas Mahon about midway into the second period and the next score from play was from substitute Ollie O`Connor at almost the 60 minute of the game the other 7 points coming from frees by Tomas Mahon. After a dreadful first half where our players were being beaten in almost every position on the field leaving the half time score 2-4 to 3 points our backs played slightly better in the second 30 minutes to come within a goal of the opposition. Our commiserations to Declan Ruth who was injured during the game and had to taken to hospital. We wish you a speedy recovery Skippy.

Junior Hurling

Sun Sept 14

Faythe Harreirs 0-11 Rapparees 2-5

Our Junior hurlers put up a better fight in their game and seemed to be about to etch out a victory after two goals in the second half from John James Dunne and Barry Nolan when stupidity and lack of experience set in as we gave away frees to bring the Harriers back into it.

Senior Football

Sat Sep 6

Starlights 0-5 Shelmaliers 1-13

Unfortunately our Senior footballers were not able to emulate our underage and went down miserably to a fitter, sharper and hungrier Shelmalier side.

U14 Hurling Semifinal

Sat Sep 6

Our U/14 hurlers gave a great performance to secure their place in the Co.Final on Saturday last beating Monageer 9-13 to 5points – none better than Kevin Foley who notched up a personal total of 6-1. It was a team effort with our players dominating in every area of the field and looking comfortable from start to finish. Our opponents in the Final will be Naomh Eanna – a repeat of last years Co. U/12 Final. Might I offer our congratulations to this U/14 team and their mentors who are doing wonderful work and we wish them every success in the final.

Junior B Hurling Mon Sep 1

Rapps 1-13 Oylegate 3-9

After a slow start 5pts to 2-3 at half time Fuzzy starred in the second half scoring 6 pts - 3 from frees. It was great to have veterans like Padraig Doyle, Mackers and Milo Mahon in the team and d.j. got the goal and it was a brilliant strike - he doubled in the air on a ball sent in from Pa O`Brien. The last goal came from a free given to Oylegate after Padraig and Eric Flynn collided together so that didn't help!

U10 Football

Our U/10s won all 5 of their games in the Seamus Keevans U/10 football Tournament to gain a place in the final – well done lads and to the men doing the work with you Padraig Doyle/Tomas McVeigh and Purt Doyle and best of luck in the final.

U14 Ladies Football 20 August

Unfortunately our U/14 Ladies Footballers were beaten in the Semi final on Wednesday night last by the Volunteers in Pairc Garman but well done to all and commiserations to Willie Nolan and Jim Breen who have done so much work with the girls this year to get them this far in their first year at U/14 football.

Review of Week Ending August 17th

We had an excellent start to the week with our Junior B footballers beating Davidstown in Davidstown – 1.11 to 6 points. A wonderful result in atrocious conditions for this young side and a good way to begin their championship campaign.

After a dreadful start – kicking only 2 points in the first half the Starlights redeemed themselves in the second period of the 1st Round of the Senior Football Championship on Friday night in Farmleigh scoring 4-5 to the Duffrys 3 points – making the final tally 4-7 to 7 points. A good first round win for the Stars with some good performances in the second half but none better than the electric brother combination of John and Willie Hudson netting 4-5 between them.

Our Junior Footballers had a lead of 3 points at the half time whistle against Cloughbawn at the same venue but lost a comfortable lead of 4 points with 12 minutes to go and ended up lucky enough to get the draw 10 points to 1.7.

Not as much luck at Underage this week with our Juvenile Footballers loosing our in their semi final slot to the Shelmaliers and our U/12 hurlers suffering the same fate against St. Martins in their semi final on Sunday morning.

U21 Hurling

A good win for the U21's last Monday night (14th) beating Ferns by 0-19 to 2-9.

David Doyle; Rory Newe, Mark Redmond, Daithí Mernagh; James Peare, Kevin Courtney, Kevin Walsh; Ricky Fox (0-2), Peter O'Sullivan (0-2); Ger Foley (0-1 line ball), Oisín Carley, Fran O'Gorman (0-9 frees); Aaron Ronan (0-2), Lee Murphy, Barry Nolan (0-1). Subs. - Joe Cullen (0-2) for Carley, John James Dunne for Murphy.

Weekend of 12/13 July

The defeat of our junior hurlers by Ferns in the first round of the championship on Saturday was softened considerably by the outstanding display given by the under 14 footballers in the county final later that day in Wexford Park.

They beat Adamstown 2-14 to 0-4 and were clearly the stronger outfit throughout with outstanding displays from Colin Nolan, Timmy Dwyer, Kevin Foley, Dale Galway and Seanie O'Gorman to name a few. We were dominant in every position from goalkeeper out. The lads have also made their way to the semi-final in the hurling and we wish them the best of luck in that.

Thur June 26th

Rapparees 1-17 Rathnure  3-12

We got off to the worst possible start last night in New Ross, managed to pull ourselves back into a position to win the match by the end but failed to take the win we needed.

After 10 minutes we were down 2-5 to 0-2 and with our team shorn of Adrian, Mossy, Mark Gahan, Tommy Foley and Aaron Ronan it looked like it was gonig to be a long night. However we got ourselves together and outplayed Rathnure for much of the rest of the game.

However without even a point to show for our efforts we must be clinical in the next two matches against St Martins and the Shels to go through.

Team: Ronie Furlong; Eoin Quigley, Declan Ruth, Tom Wall; Liam Boland, Ryan Quigley, Kevin Courtney; David Morrissey, Peter O'Sullivan; Mark Quigley, Shay Deegan, Cathal Murphy; Richard Murphy, Ed Tobin, Declan Barron. Ricky Fox for Shay.

Ladies Football Sat May 10th

Well done to our Ladies Footballers who beat Ballygarrett 7.13 to 3.4 in Bellefield on Saturday evening.

Junior Hurling Sat May 10th

Junior hurlers drew with St. Pats Camolin in Bellefield 2.12 to 1.15.

U14 Hurling Wed May 7th

Our U/14s had a good win on Wednesday night last beating Oulart in Bellefield 3.8 to 1.3.

Our thanks to Liam Griffin who did an excellent Coaching sessions with our U/14s and their mentors on Saturday morning.

U14 Slaney Hurling Festival Final Mon May 5th

Slick Rapps collect Slaney hurling crown in thriller © The Echo

THE UNDER-14 hurlers of Rapparees produced a slick display at Oylegate on Monday evening to regain the right to represent Wexford in the national Feile na nGael next month, after overcoming a game St. Martin's outfit in the Slaney Festival Premier final.

This particular Bellefield outfit boasts huge potential, and having captured county under-12 premier championship honours last year, this success shows that they are graduating quite well.

Kevin Ryan settled Rapparees when pointing a couple of frees without reply inside the first eight minutes. But, St. Martin's displayed good heart, and they were kept in contention through the solid play of such figures as Philip Waters at full-back, Calum Frankes at no.6, midfielders Edmund O'Byrne and Jack O'Connor (son of Wexford legend John), and attackers Darragh Kehoe and Donal Kelly.

Indeed, Kelly was one of the real stars of this highly entertaining spectacle, and he assisted Darragh Kehoe to get the Martin's off-the-mark with a pointed free on 18 minutes.

While Kevin Foley struck back with a point for Rapparees, the Martin's made a breakthrough on 23 minutes, when Kehoe reacted quickly to a shot coming back off the upright and bat the ball to the net, for a 1-1 to 0-3 lead.

However, the Rapps carried an underlying superiority throughout, and by this stage they had already squandered a few scores. That all changed in the closing stages of the half, as the Cathedral Town crew charged into an interval lead of 1-6 to 1-1 when points from Kehoe, Liam Ryan and Dave Galway (a quality left-handed strike) were added to by a superb goal: full-forward James Walsh (a son of Padge 'Skinner') giving a lovely lay-off for Sean O'Gorman to get the better of the magnificent Martin's 'keeper, Luke White.

The Martin's proved their character when resuming with a five-star point from centre-back Calum Frankes, who gathered possession in his own position before charging forward to strike over a real gem of a score.

The stronger Rapps dug their heels in again with another brace of points from Kevin Ryan, as he sent over a free, before adding a classy point from play (1-8 to 1-2).

The Rapps also had a fantastic goalie in Aaron Sinnott, and he came to his side's rescue when preventing Jack O'Connor and Donal Kelly from re-energising the Martin's challenge by effecting an important save.

Meanwhile, the small but tricky Niall McCrea added further spark to the Rapps' challenge for a first Slaney Hurling Festival Division 1 crown since 2003 when crafting a neat point.

But, these St. Martin's players are nothing but honest, and the phenomenal Donal Kelly broke through in the dying stages of normal-time to find the Rapps' net, and reduce the margin to a mere 1-8 to 2-2.

Try as they might, the Wexford district challengers couldn't get any closer, and Rapps' substitute Paddy Hore sent over a late point to seal the spoils for his side, much to the delight of selectors Damian Mahon, Padge 'Skinner' Walsh, Murty Dempsey and Declan Ivers.

Captain Timmy Dwyer (son of the late 'Hutchie') later had the honour of accepting the Slaney title from Des Croke, the Chairman of Coiste na nOg-Loch Garman.

Rapparees – Aaron Sinnott, Jack Flood, Michael O'Connor, Daniel O'Brien, Colin Nolan, Timmy Dwyer (capt.), Patrick O'Shea, Liam Ryan (0-1), Kevin Foley (01), Dale Galway (0-1), Seanie O'Gorman (1-0), Kevin Ryan (0-4, 3 frees), Fionn Carthy, James Walsh, Neil McCrea (0-1).

Subs: Craig Kinsella for Neil McCrea; Paddy Hore (01) for James Walsh; Leonard Connolly for Fionn Carthy; also, Sean McGrath, Sean Cloherty, Jack Conroy, Dylan Furlong.

St. Martin's – Luke White, Dylan Meyler, Philip Waters, Jack Whelan, Adrian Ryan, Calum Frankes (0-1), Conor Foran, Edmund O'Byrne (capt.), Jack O'Connor, Donal Kelly (1-0), Darragh Kehoe (1-1), David Higgins, Gary Jordan, Ryan Murphy, Sean Stafford.

Subs: Jamie Carty for Gary Jordan; Chris Culleton for Colm Foran (inj.); Mark Hayes for Sean Stafford; also, John Greene, Dean Murray, Eoin Ennis.

Senior Hurling Sunday May 4th
Over a dozen missed frees was the tale of the tape as our lads went down to the Alley at home by 0-11 to 0-16. IT was a good tough performance other than that though which gives us hope for the championship.

Junior Hurling Saturday May 3rd

Well done to the Junior A hurlers who are going really well this year. They came away from Bellefield on Saturday evening with a 3-11 to 2-10 win over Liam Mellows who are never esy to overcome. Keep it up lads.

Junior Football Thursday April 24

On Thursday evening our Junior Footballers took on Blackwater in Bellefield and were beaten by the narrowest of margins 12 pts to 2.7 despite putting in a good second half performance.

Senior Hurling Saturday April 19th

Our Senior hurlers saved the day beating Ferns in Ferns 16pts to 1.8. This was a hard fought game in dreadful conditions reminiscent more of November evenings than April and our lads did extremely well to notch up the victory – with Adrian Fenlon and Declan Ruth working well in defence – Liam Boland and Peter O`Sullivan proving a good middle of the field combination and Tomas Mahon in sparkling form up front aided by Richard Murphy/Davy Morrissey/Shay Deegan and Cathal Murphy who all sent over some lovely scores. Keep it up lads you are going well.

Junior B Hurling Saturday April 19th

Our Junior B hurlers followed suit in Bellefield later that evening at 5pm losing out to Oulart 3.16 to 1.7. We had quite a strong team out for this grade but we were promoted last year while Oulart were relegated so we're struggling in the higher division.

U10 Camogie Saturday April 19th

On Saturday morning our U/10 Camogie team played Craanford in Bellefield and unfortunately went down to the much stronger side 8.1 to 3 goals.

U14 Football Friday April 18th

On Friday evening our U/14 footballers travelled to Piercestown to take on the Martins and beat them 2.5 to 1.4.

Ladies Football Thursday April 17th

Congratulations to our Ladies Footballers who took on the Shamrocks on Thursday evening last and notched up a marvellous win 7.12 to 2 points. Well done to Michael Nolan our new trainer who had his charges in sparkling form - they are not called Starlights for nothing!

U16 Camogie Wednesday April 16th

Our U/16 Camogie team played St. James last Wednesday evening in Bellefield final score was Rapps 5-6 St.James 1-3.Scorers for the Rapps were Leanne Hore 2-2, Susan Lynch 1-1, Ciara Foley 1-0, Hazel Denton 1-0, Nicola Davitt 0-3.

Junior Football Tuesday April 15th

Our Junior Footballers taking on Marshalstown on Tuesday evening last and unfortunately losing out to them in what was a keenly contested game 1-8 to 1-10.

Sunday April 13th U14 Ladies Football

What a win for our first ever U/14 Ladies Football team under Manager Willie Nolan - they beat Castletown last night in Bellefield - 6.13 to no score. A marvellous result in their first game from these young and promising Starlets! We look forward to many more of these stalwart performances from our young hopefuls who are coming on in leaps and bounds under Selectors Willie Nolan/Jayne Mythen and Jim Breen. Well done to all concerned.

Saturday April 12th U10 Camogie

Our U/10 Camogie had a good win over Bunclody last week beating them 5 goals to 1 and beat Marshalstown in Bellefield on Saturday 7 goals to 1.

Saturday April 12th Senior Football
HWH Bunclody 1-7 Starlights 0-6

Unfortunately our Senior Footballers were not able to emulate the youngsters and went down to Bunclody in the All County League on Saturday afternoon 6 points to 1-7. Despite owning the ball and taking up camp in Bunclody’s area for most of the second period we were unable to convert our possession into scores. It makes no difference how you are playing if you cannot put the scores on the scoreboard but in fairness it wasn’t a bad performance considering we were missing players like John Hudson, Willie Hudson, Tomas Mahon, Adrian Fenlon, Tom Wall, Jason Russell, Ryan Quigley & Gary Brilly!

Thursday April 10th U12 Camogie

The under 12's beat the Shamrocks last night (Thur Apr 10) 1-0 to 0-0.

Thursday April 10th Leinster Hurling League

Our Senior Hurlers qualified for the quarter finals of the Leinster League beating the Carnew Emmets in Carnew last night 2.13 to 1.13. In a keenly contested and entertaining game we did well to get the victory without players like Tomas Mossy Mahon and Ryan Quigley. Eoin Quigley and Tom Wall were excellent in defense - Liam Boland was strong and commanding in his new position in the middle of the field and got some good scores from frees - up front both Mark Gahan and Aaron Ronan got raspers of goals whilst Cathal Murphy and Ed Tobin gave good performances and came away with 2 points each.
A good overall team effort with all 15 giving their best including our two subs Ronan Furlong and Mark Quigley.
All quarter finals will take place in a fortnight's time on Wednesday 23rd April.

Sunday April 6th Senior Hurling

Rathnure 3-15 Rapparees 2-11

On Sunday our Senior hurlers were away to Rathnure and gave a good account of themselves up to 10 minutes to the final whistle when a mistake was made in front of goal which put us 3 points behind and gave the Rathnure forwards a chance to get a run on us and finish strong 3.15 to 2.11. Not a bad performance considering we were without kingpins Fenlon and Ruth.

Saturday April 5th Junior Hurling

Rapparees 0-14 Cloughbawn 1-10

Our Junior A`s fared much better against Cloughbawn at 6pm at Bellefield on Saturday evening notching up 14pts to Cloughbawns 1-10 in an entertaining and more evenly balanced encounter.

Rapparees C 0-3 Ferns B 7-21

Our Junior B`s were first up on Saturday evening at Bellefield and suffered defeat against a much stronger Ferns side who lined out a combination of their 1st and 2nd squads against our 3rd team who were never going to be at the races against that type of opposition.

Sunday March 30th Senior Hurling

Rapparees 0-16 Oulart/The Ballagh 1-13

Early in the second half we were leading this game by 0-14 to 0-6 and had just missed the best goal chance of the game so far. However Ouart had a purple patch after that and drew level. Fair play to our lads though we held it together to notch a vital couple of points towards the end and fought for every ball to deservedly keep a point.

Ed Tobin has a blistering first half where he could do no wrong and scored four points from play. Mossie was precision itself from frees.

Team: Ronie Furlong; Tom Wall, Adrian Fenlon, Tommy Foley; xxxx, Declan Ruth, Kevin Courtney; Liam Boland, Peter O'Sullivan; Ed Tobin, Tomas Mahon, David Morrissey; xxxx, Shay Deegan, Aaron Ronan. Subs: Ricky Fox, Ryan Quigley, Richard Murphy.

Saturday March 29th Junior Hurling

Monageer 1-8 Rapparees 3-10

Monday March 17th Junior Football

Unfortunately our Junior Footballers couldn't make it a hat trick on Monday in Bellefield only managing a draw against Realt na Mara.
This game was brought forward to 1pm to faciliate the St. Patricks Day Parade and was an evenly balanced game with the halftime score 1-4 to 1-5 favouring Realt na Mara.
The visiting team upped their game at the commencement of the second half bagging a goal in the early stages but the Starlights refused to be put down and did well to secure the draw at the final whistle 1-10 to 2-7.
Scorers: David Tyrrell 1 gl/Davy Morrissey 3pts/Michael Donohoe 2pts/1pt each Ollie Oconnor/Eoin Quigley/Mark Redmond/Oisin Carley.

Sunday March 16th Juvenile Football

Our Juvenile Footballers were the next up on Sunday morning at 11.30am in Bellefield and recorded their second win to date beating St. Annes by the narrowest of margins in a low scoring and dogged encounter 6pts to 5.

Sunday March 16th Senior Football
Our Senior Footballers got off to a good start in the first of their All County League encounters this weekend - taking on and beating the Shelmaliers on Saturday afternoon in Bellefield 1-8 to 1-6.
After a bad start which left the home side trailing at the halftime whistle 2 points to 1-4 the Starlights put in a spirited display from the resumption with some excellent scores coming from David Tyrrell and Davy Speedy Morrissey and good defending by fullback Liam Boland and halfbacks Tom Wall/Mark Quigley and Cathal Murphy.
Scorers: David Tyrrell 1-1/Davy Morrissey 3pts/Declan Ruth 2pts/1 pt each Rory O`Connor/Michael Donohoe.

Sunday March 9th Juvenile Football

The first competitive match of the season returned the right results with a 1-3 to 0-4 victory for the U16 footballers against the Duffry.
