Starlights 4-12  Ballinastragh Gaels 1-8

Well done to the under 16 footballers on their fine win on Saturday!!

Our up and coming team after a slow start (perhaps because of the early hour) gave an excellent account of themselves to bring the Juvenile cup back to a joyous Bellefield. There were many great individual performances from this team - none better than the hard working and capable Anthony Roche and his equally hard working midfield partner Richie Farrell and the skilfull duo in attack Timmy Dwyer and Dane Fortune along with the young and clever Kevin Foley and the confident and classy Brendan Kearney.

Our defence also holding well at the other end with solid and strong displays from Naoise Dunbar/Mel Doyle/Dale Galway and Kevin Ryan - indeed a great overall performance with all our players doing what was needed of them to win our 3rd county title to date in what is a wonderful year for us at Underage - these same players are out next Saturday morning in the Juvenile hurling final against Naomh Eanna of Gorey and we are hopeful that they will be able to emulate our U/14 squad and do the double - good luck to you all and well done on a great win to you and mentors Purt Doyle/Billy Morrissey/Billy Crosbie/David Wall and Jack Redmond - great to see men like these involved with our underage.

From Enniscorthy Guardian:

MAYBE IT just seems like it, but do the Starlights want every Coiste Na nOg trophy? On Saturday last they added the division 1 Juvenile football crown to their U-14 hurling and football double in Farmleigh.

With this kind of strength at underage level it surely won't be long until both senior team's make the step up from 'B' championship pretenders to battling it out for the highest honours again.

This time the victims were a joining of powers between Tara Rocks and Kilanerin, the Gorey district duo were right in the contest at the break (1-3 to 0-3). The separating goal scored by the full-forward Dean Fortune although had the northern duo converted a first half penalty the contest would have been hanging in the balance.

If scores were hard to come by in the first half the opening stages of the second were a completely different story. Timmy Dwyer, who upon the conclusion of the match would be a hat-trick hero, knocked his first barely a minute into the period.

Brendan Kearney put further daylight on the board soon after only for Ballinastragh to instigate a mini revival. Raised whites from Jamie Heffernan, Johnny Kavanagh, Darren Whelan and Liam De Hora brought them within three again (2-4 to 0-7) only for the victors to re-establish their dominance.

The second and third goal, coming either side of the midpoint of the second half, pretty much shut the door on a valiant Ballinastragh side. Throw in the towel they didn't however and were rewarded with a 54th minute consolation goal, a persistent Rhys Mar Brady found James Dixon with an accurate pass, allowing the substitute to slot the games fifth goal.

Richie Farrell, Starlights captain, further padded the lead late on with a trio of points.
