Starlights 0-5 Shelmaliers 0-6
Unfortunately, Lady Luck didnt smile on us in the Jim Byrne Cup decider on Sunday last, with the Shelmaliers taking the spoils for the fourth year in a row by a single point. At 5 points to 6 this would seem a dour affair but rather it was a hotly contested final with neither side able to get away from the other to any great extent - indeed Starlights would have created the greater share of the chances - particularly goal chances but were unable to finish them.
Perhaps, the simply kick or flick over the bar would have been the better option at times but this team and these forwards are noted for goals which is not always a bad thing - but on the day it just didnt work for us. However, on the positive side this has been a most beneficial preparation for this years Championship and despite losing the final our own Jack Kelly was awarded the Man of the Match award and Diarmuid Cullen emerged as a revelation in defence. Things to learn and things to do different - but a spirited - never say die attitude - make this team one to look out for later in the season. Well done to all concerned. Players/Mentors/Families and other club members returned to the Clubhouse for refreshments where they enjoyed the rest of their Valentines Day.
