Rapparees 1-18 Glynn-Barntown 2-14
The icing on the cake this week was most definitely our 3rd win in the Senior hurling Championship making it 3 out of 3 for the Rapps and putting them through to the quarter finals. It wasn't just the victory over Glynn/Barntown in Wexford Park on Saturday evening that gladdened our hearts and put smiles on many of the faces at Bellefield but rather the manner in which the lads hurled and kept hurling til the final whistle.
A wonderfully taken goal by Eamonn Furlong who found himself alone and in front of goal and in possession following a well executed pass from Cathal Murphy clinched the victory in the final minutes. Eamonn who had hurled well throughout didn't hesitate and struck hard and fast to the back of the net leaving the final score 1.18 to 2.14 and a one point victory for the Rapps recorded and accepted by all in the field apart from the Referee who had the final outcome a draw. Having checked my own score, the official scoreboard and the notes of reporters at the game I questioned the Ref who refused to admit that he had the wrong score recorded - this is a dilemma for the GAA but I think it is an issue that must be addressed - Referees can make mistakes - only the Pope is infallible! Well done to all our lads it was a wonderful team effort - they hurled as a unit with commitment and determination and eked out the victory in what was a good clean game with good hurling and many well taken scores - may ye go from strength to strength.
