Well done to the under 16 footballers who won the County Final yesterday by 0-11 to 0-5.

On Sunday 17th October our official Underage season ended in Wexford Park with the final epsiode of our saga with the St. Martins Club. And what a way for it to end with our Juvenile footballers doing the double in the Co.Final football replay.

Once again this team showed their worth as they stepped up to the mark and took their second trophy in 2 weeks. What can we say about this group of young hopefuls that hasn’t already been said - they are a skilful bunch of young players that have strength, character, commitment and above all that never say die attitude that drives them on no matter what to etch out a victory.

It was nip and tuck in the first half with good scores coming from Timmy Dwyer/Dale Galway and Liam Ryan and 2 saved chances on goal coming from Timmy and Kevin Foley leaving the half time score 5 points to 4 to the Starlights.

But in the second period the Stars showed their metal scoring 6 points to the Martins 2 and in the final quarter of the game once the Stars began to move the ball around fast instead of holding on to it they were clearly the better side - finishing strong at 11 points to 6 and making it two in a row having beaten the Martins in the hurling Final the previous week.

It was obvious that the Starlights had learnt more from the drawn game than the Martins with wonderful performances from the fullback line of Daniel O`Brien/Kevin Ryan/Fionn Carty aided and abetted by halfbacks Patrick O`Shea/Colin Nolan and Sean Cloherty - Timmy Dwyer and Anthony Roche coming into their own at midfield as the game developed and forwards Kevin Foley/Liam Ryan/Dale Galway/Darragh Pepper/James Walsh and Seanie O`Gorman threatening and dangerous in possession. Well done to all these lads and Niall McCrea/Liam Murphy and Leonard Connolly who gave their all to secure the win and take the cup back to a jubiliant Bellefield.

Congrats to mentors Billy Morrissey/Jack Redmond/David Wall and Purt Doyle for all their effort and dedication to this team and to Padraig Doyle - Physio and Jack Doyle Mascot. Your past is glorious and your future looks bright lads and I look forward to watching you on many September/October fields for many years to come. Come on the Stars!

If you have photos etc please send them in - thanks!
