U21 Hurling

A good win for the U21's last Monday night (14th) beating Ferns by 0-19 to 2-9.

Weekend of 12/13 July

The defeat of our junior hurlers by Ferns in the first round of the championship on Saturday was softened considerably by the outstanding display given by the under 14 footballers in the county final later that day in Wexford Park.

They beat Adamstown 2-14 to 0-4 and were clearly the stronger outfit throughout with outstanding displays from Colin Nolan, Timmy Dwyer, Kevin Foley, Dale Galway and Seanie O'Gorman to name a few. We were dominant in every position from goalkeeper out. The lads have also made their way to the semi-final in the hurling and we wish them the best of luck in that.

The Martin Doyle memorial tournament was in full swing in Bellefield on Sunday morning last with wins for Naomh Eanna, St Martins, Marshalstown & Carnew.

Our own under 10's did well on Saturday in the Kent Stainless Steel Ground HUrling tournament with two wins from three and our under 10 camogie team had a good win last week as did the lady footballers.

There are two matches in Bellefield this Thursday with Rathnure taking on Askamore at 6.30 pm and the Harriers at 7.45 pm.

This week in the Clubhouse we have Irish Dancing classes beginning on Thursday night at 8pm and continuing every Mon & Thur at the same time.

Good luck to Jason Ryan and the county footballers on Sunday, in particular Tom Wall & Gary Brilly - Go raibh on t-adh libh!

Senior Hurling Championship

Thur June 26th

Rapparees 1-17 Rathnure  3-12

We got off to the worst possible start last night in New Ross, managed to pull ourselves back into a position to win the match by the end but failed to take the win we needed.

After 10 minutes we were down 2-5 to 0-2 and with our team shorn of Adrian, Mossy, Mark Gahan, Tommy Foley and Aaron Ronan it looked like it was gonig to be a long night. However we got ourselves together and outplayed Rathnure for much of the rest of the game.

However without even a point to show for our efforts we must be clinical in the next two matches against St Martins and the Shels to go through.

Team: Ronie Furlong; Eoin Quigley, Declan Ruth, Tom Wall; Liam Boland, Ryan Quigley, Kevin Courtney; David Morrissey, Peter O'Sullivan; Mark Quigley, Shay Deegan, Cathal Murphy; Richard Murphy, Ed Tobin, Declan Barron. Ricky Fox for Shay.

Feile na nGael 2008

The dreadful wind and rain that was Feile 2008 was made bearable by the wonderful competitiveness of our U/14 hurlers who played the Emeralds of Urlingford and Dicksboro – both Co. Finalists in the Kilkenny Championship and we were only beaten by a goal in each game and in our final test after a bad start we brought the Tipperary Champions Toomevara to a draw. Wonderful stuff lads – it was heartening to see how our young hurlers stood up to the challenge of competition at the very top level and acquitted themselves well – it augurs well for the Club and for Wexford hurling in general. There were some marvellous displays of individual hurling but over the 3 games and it was more than a team performance: it was a full panel performance with subs doing their bit when called into the fray.

Can I say thank you as Secretary of the Club to all involved – to the Mentors who have done so much work with this team to get them this far – your efforts have paid off lads, to all who very generously sponsored this team to the Feile Committee who did all the fund raising and kitted these lads out to the very best and most of all to our players – you made me proud at Feile cos you proved that you are up their with the best of them and you showed courage and skill and commitment and finished each game stronger than you started. Well done.
