Under 10 Ground Hurling Tournament
Bellefield Sat 10 July
The first round of the Northern section of this year's ground hurling tournament started last Saturday in Bellefield with the home team playing host to Monageer / Boolavogue, Askamore and Rathnure. The grading for this year was changed from under 11 back to under 10 becasue of the new skills league for under 12 hurling.
The Rapps were off against Askamore first and the north county boys and girls had no answer to the first time hurling from our lads who ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next we faced Rathnure and there were a number of tense exchanges in this encounter with the Rathnure goalkeeper making some Fitzhenryesque saves, throwing himself at anything that moved. As the match entered the closing stages it was still close but then we breached the Rathnure rearguard once more to secure a good win.
The final game was against Monageer, who had won their first two matches as well. In the end the Rapparees won by one goal to nil.
The Rapps ran out winners of the Monageer tournament but we have no reports from further games: if anyone has any can they send them in please?
