Under 14 Football Tuesday  06/07/2004

Starlights V Glynn-Barntown

Starlights were on a high after the previous evenings exploits but unfortunately never got into their rhythm. Glynn scored first and had scored 1-03 before the Stars replied with a point, Glynn went in leading by a goal at halftime and this goal divided the teams for the rest of the match, the Stars unable to repeat their excellent performance of the night before.

Andrew Kelly was a solid fullback with Dean Ryan and Joe Cullen the best of the rest.

Under 14 Football Monday  05/07/2004

Starlights 3-14  Kilmore 4-05

Starlights took a long time to get going in this game and for a time it seemed would be completely overrun but they settled themselves down and were only two points adrift at half time.  Playing up hill in the second half  they got two early points and this gave them the confidence they needed to make this game their own.  Dean Ryan was outstanding in midfield but was ably assisted by Thos Collins, Andrew Kelly and Joe Cullen with David Wall, Barry Nolan, Alan Franklin and Riki O'Leary doing all the damage up front.

Under 14 Football

Oulart Wed 12 May

Oulart 5-06     Starlights  2-05

The Under 14s started well in this game with some well taken points and a James Peare goal, they went in leading by a point at half time.  Oulart got a run at us in the second half and had netted two in the first five minutes, although we kept trying we were unable to draw back this advantage.

Our lads tried hard but the superior height advantage of the Oulart boys told in the end.  John James Dunne, Joe Cullen, Andrew Kelly, Aaron Ronan and James Peare were our best players and Padge Dwyer showed well when introduced in the second half.

Feile na Peil

Saturday 1st May

The under 14s made the trip to Ferns on Saturday to take part in the Feil na Peil competition .  Hopes were high of at least qualifying from our group (Shamrocks and Ferns) but this did not pan out.

We looked well on our way against the Shamrocks but a poor clearance in the backline gave away a goal and we were always on the back foot after that.  We went on to get a fortunate draw but needed to beat Ferns by five points in order to go through to the next round.

We gave away soft goals again in the second match and with only ten minutes per half were unable to get back on terms.

Shamrocks qualified from the group but were beaten in the next round by Naomh Eanna.

Naomh Eanna were beaten by the Shelmaliers in the final on Monday.

April 14

The under 14 Footballers had a practice match against Ballyhougue To-night and were easy winners.
